The Portuguese Surf School Association (AESDP) found an alternative for holding the 1st National Meeting of Surf Schools and Coaches without risk of spreading COVID-19, on March 26th and 27th, and participation in the event is at a distance of 1 click.
The event, which was initially planned to take place in Costa da Caparica, has as its main objective the meeting of several national surf education operators to debate the most recent developments in terms of regulation and ordering of this activity. According to AESDP, decisions on the path to be followed and the rules to be adopted for the future of the sector should be taken by the operators themselves, with this meeting being the platform for debate and decision-making.
Due to the current pandemic situation experienced worldwide, the event will take place in digital format, through a series of debate panels via online videoconference. Over the 26th and 27th of March, there will be several conferences with the participation of five operators in each one, randomly selected and moderated by AESDP.
The conferences and debate sessions will have the following themes:
1. Sector Sustainability: The Future of Surf Schools and Coaches;
2. The Current Status of Skills Transfer on Beaches: from Captaincies to Municipalities.
The consequences of Coronavirus for operators and solutions to overcome them will also be addressed.
Contrary to what was initially planned, for logistical reasons and so that the format can be properly tested, participation in the meeting is exclusive to AESDP associate members. The Association also communicated that later, as soon as the conditions are again met, the face-to-face session open to the public will be rescheduled.
This is yet another example of several innovative initiatives that have emerged to address the need for isolation caused by the spread of COVID-19.
