RELEASE: CLARIFICATION ON THE CLOSURE OF SURF SCHOOLS

The Board of the Portuguese Surf School Association hereby informs that, with the publication of Decree No. 3-B/2021, of January 19, which amends the regulations of the current State of Emergency, the mandatory closure has been definitively clarified. Surf Schools, as well as all individual sports training facilities for the public.

As previously reported, we made several requests for clarification to Organs responsible bodies of the Government, due to the various applications that the previous law had had, with the announcement of the closure of Surf Schools while other training venues for individual sports maintained their activity.

Thus, with the update of the previous Decree (No. 3-A/2021, of January 14), this situation is finally duly clarified, with training only allowed for those who, pursuant to paragraph 2 of the article 34 have their activity equated to professional activity, namely: “(…) high performance athletes, from national teams of Olympic and Paralympic sports, from the 1st national division or from competition at the corresponding competitive level of all modalities of male and female senior levels, those participating in international championships, the activity of accompanying these athletes in adapted sports, as well as the respective technical and refereeing teams.”

Now that this situation is properly clarified, we once again call on all operators to comply and enforce the rules laid down, reinforcing our certainty that we will monitor all developments and maintain contact with the responsible entities, so that our activity can resume as as soon as possible without posing any risk to public health.

Until then, it is up to us all to do our part to stop the spread of the virus.

The Direction.
