SURF & RESCUE: INAUGURATION OF THE 2nd EDITION OF TRAINING IN SURF AND WATER RESCUE IN OVAR


Next Wednesday, July 14th, Furadouro beach will receive the initiative launched by the Portuguese Surf School Association (AESDP) and Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN), which combines surfing with water rescue, starting a new cycle of training.


In 2020, the Portuguese Surf School Association and the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos joined together, with the aim of enhancing the contribution that has already been given by Surf Schools in supporting drowning victims on beaches across the country. the country, mainly outside the bathing season and on unguarded beaches, where these operators are present throughout the year.


It was in this context that the Surf & Rescue initiative emerged, which consists of a series of training courses aimed at Surf School Coaches and technicians, in water rescue and rescue, first aid and Basic Life Support. Last year, Surf & Rescue had its debut in Matosinhos, Costa de Caparica and Sagres. Now, in the second edition, Ovar and Machico are the first confirmations, marking the beginning of an edition that intends to reach other parts of the country this year.


This edition will then start in Ovar, Furadouro beach, on the 14th of July, where it will take place throughout the day. Thanks to the support of the Municipality of Ovar, this action will have no cost for the participants and will feature the presence of the Mayor, Salvador Malheiro. In the following week, on the 21st, Surf & Rescue will also visit Machico, on Madeira Island.


This free training is intended for Coaches and other members and workers of Surfing Schools and Clubs, lasts for 7 hours and allocates 1.4 Credit Units for the renewal of the IPDJ Coaches Card. Due to the constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the actions are limited to a total of 30 participants, with places still available.
