SURF & RESCUE: THE PROJECT THAT CONNECTS SURF AND RESCUE IS BACK TO THE PORTUGUESE BEACHES

An initiative developed between the Portuguese Surfing School Association (AESDP) and the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN), with the aim of strengthening the connection between surfing and water rescue, opened in 2020. The 2nd edition is marked by free training for Surf Schools and this month will pass by Ovar and Machico. Allocates 1.4 IPDJ Credits for the renewal of Coaches Titles.

It is well known that Surf Schools and Coaches make an important contribution to the safety and rescue of beaches in Portugal, as well as the entire surfing community in general.

In fact, these are one of the main beach protection and safety agents outside the bathing season, who must have an up-to-date and adequate knowledge of rescue techniques, first aid and Basic Life Support, since, in most cases, these rescue actions take place informally and without any record of occurrences.

It is based on the knowledge of this reality that the Portuguese Surfing School Association (AESDP) developed, together with the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN), the Surf & Rescue training, whose 2nd edition will take place during the summer of 2021 , with shared launch between the Centro Region and Madeira Island. These actions will train Surf School technicians to ensure safety along the coast throughout the year.

The dates and places of the first formations are as follows:

14 July | Ovar – Support Ovar City Council

21 July | Machico, Madeira Island – Support Municipality of Machico

This training is aimed at Coaches and other members and workers of Surfing Schools and Clubs, lasts for 7 hours and allocates 1.4 Credit Units for the renewal of IPDJ Coaches' Notes. Participation is free and limited to 30 subscribers per share.

All registrations and requests for information must be made by email to the Portuguese Surf School Association, through the address info@associacaoescolasdesurf.pt.
