The third action of the Surf & Rescue initiative, which brings together the Association of Surf Schools of Portugal (AESDP) and the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos (ISN), took place yesterday at Praia de Matosinhos, with the support of the Municipality of Matosinhos. This was the last action of the cycle of 3 training sessions within a week, with the aim of reinforcing the role of Surf Schools in supporting aquatic rescue, thus aiming to reinforce safety on Portuguese beaches throughout the year.
This training, aimed at coaches and technicians from the Surf Schools and Surf Camps, took place throughout the day on Matosinhos beach, having exhausted the 30 enrollment limit imposed by the current pandemic situation.
The participation of surfers and Surf Coaches in rescues and rescues at sea is an increasingly present reality in Portugal and this action has contributed to empowering those on the front lines throughout the year, the Surf Schools, at the highest level. recent rescue techniques, first aid and Basic Life Support.
This unique project, by bringing together trainers from ISN and AESDP, allows participants to obtain knowledge of aquatic rescue and rescue adapted to the reality of surfing and, specifically, to the context of surf lessons. During the day, all participants learned and practiced rescue techniques with and without a board, basic life support and first aid.
The first Surf & Rescue edition ended like this at Praia de Matosinhos, after having passed through Costa da Caparica and Sagres, on the 23rd and 26th, respectively. The action had the support of the Municipality of Matosinhos, which was represented by President Luísa Salgueiro and Vice President Fernando Rocha.
